Rectangle tablecloths

For the last event I did I found that it was actually less expensive to buy bolts of fabric (not from Joanns, but from Fabric.com). For my previous event where I bought round tablecloths it was cheaper to buy ready made tablecloths. Rectangle or square tables on the other hand? Depending on the size you can save up to $70. For gold fabric with purple table runners this was a big difference on a tight budget.

Creating a website

When creating your website for the first time and are looking for something cheap, try wix.com. It has templates and is free if you don't buy an actual domain. I just did this this morning and while it was slightly frustrating at times I think it came out well. Wix also lets you create a mobile site so you an make sure nothing gets cut off there.

Best of 2015 award winner!

Imagine my surprise today when I received the Best of 2015 award on Thumbtack for my business. Hopefully this will make a difference in the amount of jobs I get. Thumbtack is a site where people can find professionals to help them with a variety of jobs such as photography, decorating, and coordinating, among other things. I found this site through a Google search when I was first getting started in the Event Planning business. Professionals create a profile so they can bid for jobs, then when they get clients they can ask for a review of their work. Not to sound conceited but I have a five star rating which is what helped me get this award. It took a lot of hard work to get to this point but it was worth it and I will continue doing what I love, Event Planning, for as long as I can. Once I get more business I want to start an actual website so I can get more clients and have a portfolio online that I can direct clients to.

In current work, I am still working on the first birthday party I am planning which is this Saturday. Just a few finishing touches (making tablecloths and painting 3D letters) and I will be ready for the big event. Also got a new job, a birthday party for an elderly gentlemen. It's a simple fall theme, but every job counts and having the ability to plan an event and help make the day special for each client is worth all the effort down to the tiny details. Will keep you updated on the progress of my business, Homespun Weddings and Events, and each thing I learn on this journey through starting a business.

Trying to make it as an event planner

The thing I love about planning events is decorating the event. Discussing what the client wants and making it come true. I have so far done a poker party for a 23rd birthday, a rehearsal dinner for a bride to be, and currently I'm working on a first birthday party with the theme of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Each time I start with a new client I have a list of possibilities. A whole field of nothingness that can be changed to the perfect event for everyone involved. The perfect memory for years to come. The color scheme, the wall art, the creating of every detail down to the smallest things that some people wouldn't even think of. A daisy napkin ring. There favorite nursery rhyme. A guest book of wishes for the birthday girl. Every detail coming together to make the perfect memory. That is what I love about events, and that is what I want to do. What I am going to school for and what I am working so hard to get clients for. The little details that make up the big picture. Which is why I am writing this blog, the little details that will hopefully make this tiny business into something that I can do. Because being able to do what you love is that point of living, it is the thing that keeps me going no matter what else is going on in my life.
